What happens during a Reiki session

A session is usually carried out with the client lying down or sitting, in a comfortable and peaceful environment.

There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki energy passes easily through all materials, including plaster casts.

I place my hands gently on or over the body; there is no massage or manipulation. Reiki can also be given over a distance.

Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all, everyone is different but trust that the Reiki is working regardless.

The length of Reiki sessions may vary, I offer short taster 20 minute and full 45 minute treatments.

A Reiki treatment is non-diagnostic, non-interventionist, non-manipulative and no pressure is applied.

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

Wear something comfortable, as you will be laid down for up to 45mins.

What should I expect from my first session?

We will chat through your general well-being, any relevant background information and discuss what you want from your treatment.

I will explain the hand positions and chakra system and what you may feel during your treatment. Some people experience emotional releases, warmth/cold, tingling or just a beautiful feeling of relaxation.

A treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you, and reviewed as necessary. This will always be subject to your own preferences, and can be changed at any time in line with progress.

If any big shifts in energy occur you may experience a de-toxifying process. This is a positive sign of release of toxins from the body. During this process you generally still feel well but may have symptoms which may include more frequent urination, runny nose, sensations of heat and vibration in the body.

What should I expect after my treatment?

After your treatment hopefully you feel rested and re-energised but sometimes after a treatment or a series of treatments, there may be a detoxifying process. This is a positive sign of release of toxins from the body. During this process you generally still feel well. Symptoms of detoxification may include more frequent /stronger urination, runny nose, excessive perspiration and sensations of heat and vibration in the body. This is all normal and nothing to worry about, drinking frequent glasses of water and eating lightly for a day or two can help.

Do you help treat terminal or chronic illness?

Reiki can not cure disease or illness but it can help alleviate side effects and in general be a supportive therapy alongside traditional and alternative therapies for things such as cancer. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancer-in-general/treatment/complementary-alternative-therapies/individual-therapies/reiki

I currently offer treatments with the Pickering Centre, Tunbridge Wells once a month. These appointments can be booked via the Pickering Centre once you become a member of their community.
